MXON: Belgium a close second in Qualifying… France on pole
The France team has won the qualifications of the 70th Motocross of Nations in Maggiora. The French defending champions with Romain Febvre, Gautier Paulin and Benoit Paturel in the team emerged as the strongest team from these Qualifying Races for tomorrow's “Big Race”.
Second place was nice for the Belgian team, where Kevin Strijbos finished third in the MXGP class and Jeremy Van Horebeek even took victory in the MX2 class. Because of these two great series, the result of our third rider in the team Brent Van Doninck had little influence and the Yamaha rider crossed the finish line in twelfth place in the Open class.
The Dutch with Jeffrey Herlings (1), Glen Coldenhoff (5) and Brian Bogers (5) third in the Qualifying. The team from Switzerland took fourth place ahead of Italy's home rider with Antonio Cairoli, Samuele Bernardini and Michele Cervillin. One of the top favorites that was eliminated was Team USA, which only managed to qualify for tomorrow's competition in fifteenth place.
Febvre, Van Horebeek and Herlings take the series victories…
Antionio Cairoli seemed to be on his way to victory in the MXGP class until he crashed two laps from the end, leaving the series victory to Frenchman Romain Febvre. In the MX2 class it was our compatriot Jeremy Van Horebeek who took victory after a tough duel with the Swiss Jeremy Seewer. Finally, Jeffery Herlings won the Open class without any opposition ahead of Gautier Paulin and Dean Ferris.
Jeremy Van Horebeek : “It went very well but I had a small crash at the beginning of the race and then I had a nice duel with Jeremy Seewer. It was certainly not easy to pass him, but in the end I was able to pass him and take the win. But we came second as a team and that is the most important thing. I have always been on the podium at the Nations and I hope I can do it again this year. From my side everything is good and I am ready and I hope the other riders are too, but I am confident. Ultimately, reaching the podium is our goal.”
