Kester seems like a good dress rehearsal for Jeffrey Herlings and Belgians!
On a beautiful new course, AMC Dworp was able to receive a nice group of World Championship pilots. Guys like Jeffrey Herlings (on a 450cc KTM), Jeremy Van Horebeek (on a 250cc Yamaha) and Brent Van Doninck (on a 450cc Yamaha) came to test drive the all-important MXON!
In the first round in Kester we had a duel between Kevin Strijbos, the third Belgian who will represent us in Maggiora, and Jeffrey Herlings. The bullet was hanging on a rack, as it were. Every time it seems that he is finally closing the gap on 'The Kid' on Suzuki, he finds another acceleration, or three-time world champion Jeffrey Herlings makes a mistake. We see this spectacle until the last round, when the number one of the Netherlands is literally on the wheel of Kevin Strijbos. The last turn should bring relief, but 'The Kid' also repulses that last attack. The man from Wuustwezel wins series one ahead of Jeffrey Herlings and 'old dog' Steve Ramon. Jeremy Van Horebeek finished fourth on his light motorcycle ahead of the one-off Dennis Verbruggen. The extremely talented Crusty in turn leaves Brent Van Doninck, who is making his debut on 450cc, behind him.
But a few hours later the gate falls again and that means new opportunities for everyone. In this round we see three-time world champion Jeffrey Herlings taking the holeshot ahead of Jeremy Van Horebeek. De Jerre on his MX2 machine is clearly looking forward to a test and sets his sights on the leader's furious pace. Lap after lap, leader JH84 sets top times only to see this answered by Jeremy Van Horebeek. The former Belgian champion shows that his speed is more than good on his TwoFifty. Unfortunately there is nothing more to do than follow in Kester, there is no real attack and Jeffrey Herlings wins the heat ahead of the impressive Jerre and Kevin Strijbos. Kevin Strijbos in turn left Steve Ramon and Andy Truyts ahead. The latter would crown himself Belgian Champion in the Challenger trophy later in the afternoon.
The third round started with a holeshot for Crazy Crusty Verbruggen, but he was quickly called to order by Jeffrey Herlings. The KTM pilot clearly felt better and better on the 450cc. Once again he had Jeremy Van Horebeek behind him, but the Yamaha pilot could not keep the mistakes to a minimum, so we could never really talk about a duel, like in the previous heat. Behind them we were looking forward to what Kevin Strijbos and Brent Van Doninck were doing, both gentlemen were in the running for the Belgian Inters Open Championship. KS22 had closed the gap to Brent in the first two heats and started the third heat as the leader. Brent Van Doninck unfortunately dropped out quickly with technical problems, leaving the road clear for Kevin Strijbos. The Suzuki pilot in turn had rolled up the strong start Dennis Verbruggen and rode to the finish in third place. Dennis, in turn, seemed likely to achieve another top five finish. But after a tough, round-long duel with Kevin Wouts, the pump was clearly off. And in order not to endanger anyone, he let Steve Ramon, Kevin Wouts and Jens Getteman pass to reach seventh at his own pace. A nice result for a hobby bob.
Kevin Wouts crowned himself Belgian Champion in the Inters MX2 class with his fifth place. This for Dutchman Mark Boot and Eythor Reynisson.
