Max Anstie wins MX2 in Lommel for the third time in a row
Briton Max Anstie has won the Belgian MX2 Grand Prix for the third time in a row on the Lommel sand circuit. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider from the team of former world champion Jacky Martens was the strongest in both series. What is also special is that Anstie has achieved these three victories in a row on three different brands. In 2014 he rode to victory on a Yamaha and a year later in 2015 on the Kawasaki and now on the Husky.
Second place in this very tough sand race went to the Suzuki World MX2 rider Jeremy Seewer who took fourth place in the first series and led for a while during the second series until Max Anstie came along and had to be satisfied with a second place. Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Petar Petrov took his first-ever podium of the season with second and sixth places in the series.
Who did lose some points in Lommel was the winner last week in the Czech Loket, the Frenchman Dylan Ferrandis. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider even had to give up in the first series after a fall, but he made amends in the second series with a third place.
Falls keep Van Doninck from getting good results…
The Belgian side was looking forward to the return of Kemea Yamaha rider Brent Van Doninck, who was sidelined for about four Grand Prix after his wrist injury. In the first series, Van Doninck did very well at the start with sixth place and then worked his way up to third place. Until he came under pressure from Kemea teammate Benoit Paturel for third place in the final laps and made a mistake on the penultimate lap and was only classified eighteenth. In the second series Van Doninck had a good start again and after three laps he was in fourth place until he made a mistake and had to leave the battle scene. Yet the harvest remains meager for the Kemea Yamaha rider who has to leave Lommel with barely three points.
