DMoM: Jonrup, Geerts, Herlings and Bobryshev win in Markelo! + photo
The third race of the Dutch Masters of Motocross took place on the beautiful Markelo circuit, also known as the Herikerberg circuit. Normally there is sand eating in this championship, but this time the pilots were given a surface under their wheels that was a combination of clay and sand. In the 85cc class it was classification leader Emil Jonrup who handled this best, he won both heats and once again took the maximum number of points. Mack Bouwense and Kay de Wolf were allowed to join him on stage. Our compatriots did not do badly at all, Lars Der Boven finished neatly 5th, Marnicq Lagrou 17th and Avo Tack 40th, he was unable to finish the second heat.
In the 125cc class we were once again presented with a Jago Geerts show, the Belgian top talent managed to start both heats well and quickly drive towards the front to control the race from there. In the first moto Mikkel Haarup was able to stay closest to him. In the second heat it was Marcel Conijn who achieved a great series and did not allow the gap to exceed 8 seconds during the entire heat. Overall it is Jago Geerts who wins, ahead of Mikkel Haarup and Marcel Conijn. Regarding the other Belgians, it is Glenn Bielen in 16th place, Ian de Sweemer in 18th place, Bo de Clercq 19th, Chiel Vanhaeren 33rd and Storm Steensels 39th.
If Jeffrey Herlings starts, he also wins. That was no different today, the two-time MX2 champion visibly won both heats easily. But with him everything seems easy... Twice it was Max Anstie who crossed the finish line in second place and Thomas Covington only needed a fourth and third place to take the third podium spot. Only one Belgian started in the MX2 class and that was Michael Bruyninckx, he was classified 37th overall after not finishing in the first moto.
In the premier class there was no match for the Russian Evgeny Bobryshev, though. In the first heat, Glenn Coldenhoff had to watch how he was beaten in front of his own audience. Due to a slide at the start that was not his fault, the Dutchman had to come back from a very long way and still fought his way to second place. In the second heat we saw a great duel between Bobryshev and Coldenhoff. The Russian is slightly faster with his Honda, but the Dutchman held off every attack. In the rain and on a circuit that provides less and less grip, the two pilots went all out. For a long time it seemed that Coldenhoff could resist all attacks, but after a small delay with a doubled rider, Bobryshev saw his chance and sent his HRC Honda towards first place. Bobryshev wins ahead of Coldenhoff and Damon Graulus, who only completed his second race ever on the MX1 bike, finished third in both the series and the day's results. The other Belgians also did not do badly, Yentel Martens 4th, Jens Getteman 6th, Nick Triest 7th, Kevin Wouts 10th despite scoring 0 points in the first round, Dietger Damiaens 12th, Robin Bakens 19th, Mike Vanderstraeten 22nd, Ronny Van Hove 27th, Joshua Feyton's 28th.
The next race for the Dutch Masters of Motocross will be held at the Emmen circuit on July 3. Just to demonstrate how international the Dutch Masters of Motocross is. The 12 podium places are divided over 7 nationalities and 2 continents.
