Roczen and Savatgy win AMA National opener at Hangtown
The opening race of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship got underway this weekend in Hangtown-Sacramento. The AMA Nationals will again consist of twelve races this season and will end on August 27 in Ironman-Crawfordsville.
In the 450 class it was RCH Suzuki rider Ken Roczen who completely dominated this opening race by winning both series. Second place went to defending champion Ryan Dungey who finished second twice and could do little to challenge Ken Roczen's dominance. Eli Tomac already finished third with two fourth places. Marvin Musquin, starting in his first 450 AMA National, took ninth and seventh place in the heats. The second Frenchman at the start, Christophe Pourcel, did not have a very good opener in Hangtown and did not get further than seventeenth and fifteenth place. It was a dramatic start in Hangtown for James Stewart, in the first series the Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing rider was taken to the emergency services with a shoulder injury.

By winning both series, he immediately takes the leading position and is already fifteen points ahead of second man Alex Martin (8-2). Yamalube/Star Yamaha Racing riders Cooper Webb (4-5) and Jeremy Martin (3-9) didn't get off to a bright start in this opening event in Hangtown. While Joey Savatgy took the top prize for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki Team, his other teammates were a bit slow. Adam Cianciarulo, who missed the supercross season due to injuries and focused everything on the outdoors, did not end up in the top ten with a 12th and 11th place and the Swiss Arnaud Tonus did not get further than 22nd and 15th place in the series.
