In the end, Gajser saved the GP victory in Latvia
Tim Gajser managed to take victory in the Latvian Grand Prix at the last minute. It was the 2 Slovenian MX2015 World Champion's fourth victory in the MXGP class. Second place in Latvia went to Antonio Cairoli, who saw a certain GP victory slip away in the final laps. World champion Romain Febvre still took the third podium place with his series victory in the second series and therefore remains the leader in the standings with one point more than Tim Gajser.
In the first series the Slovenian took the victory ahead of Nagl and Cairoli, but in the second series things went wrong for Gajser. In the opening laps, Gajser was in second place behind Antonio Cairoli when he made a mistake. The Gariboldi Honda rider briefly lost control and fell so spectacularly that Max Nagl, who was riding behind him, could no longer move and fell to the ground. So Gajser and Nagl had to immediately give chase. Lap by lap, Gajser moved up one place and ended up in fifth place behind Max Nagl. With only two laps to go, Gajser started his final offensive and yes, before the very last lap, he took Max Nagl. This immediately meant that the GP victory went to Tim Gajser and therefore beat Antonio Cairoli by one point in the final standings of the Latvian Grand Prix.
Our best compatriot in Kegums, Latvia, was Jeremy Van Horebeek with a fourth and third place in the series. This meant that “The Jerre” just missed the podium with a fourth place in the final standings. Kevin Strijbos took a nice sixth place in the first series and was certainly on his way to a good third place in the second series until he had to go to the riders' park with mechanical problems. Our third compatriot Clement Desalle had an off-day in Latvia. At the start of the first series, his front wheel was stuck in the starting gate, probably due to reacting too quickly when the starting gate fell. The new dad couldn't get further than eighteenth place. In the second series things became even more dramatic for Desalle because he eventually disappeared from the race after a fall.
