EMX125: Stephen Rubini in a class of his own, but loses due to penalty time
The 3rd race of the season for the EMX125 championship started this weekend in Spain. The leader in the championship is our very own Jago Geerts, ahead of the Frenchman Stephen Rubini and the Dutchman Roan Van De Moosdijk.
The first heat started well for our compatriot Geerts. Although it was Gianluca Facchetti who took the holeshot, after just a few corners it was the Sahkar KTM pilot who took the lead. Even before the end of the first round, it was direct competitor Stephen Rubini who came in second place. In round 2 then drama for Geerts, he falls and loses his leading position. It is now Rubini who leads for Facchetti and Geerts. For almost the entire heat this was the top 3 and a real war broke out behind them between about 10 riders. At the very end of the heat it was similar to Jago Geerts, he started making mistakes and adopting an atypical driving style, with the result that the Frenchmen Brian Moreau and Pierre Goupillon passed him. For example, Geerts loses 9 valuable points to Stephen Rubini, who is untouchable today.

In the second heat it was a true Jago Geerts show, the young Belgian took the holeshot and immediately disappeared into the distance. Stephen Rubini who dominated yesterday's race had a poorer start but was able to move up to second place fairly quickly. Zachary Pichon, who crashed before turn 1 yesterday, was now in a nice third place. After about 1/3e match, it was the Italian Gianluca Facchetti who passed Pichon. After this maneuver there was no wind on the circuit for a while, until there were still about 5 minutes on the clock. The Frenchman Stephen Rubini starts his turbo and starts clocking a lot faster lap times than the leader Jago Geerts. When the official time expired, the Frenchman got into the wheel of the Belgian and after just a few corners the battle was over. Rubini didn't hesitate for a second and made it a 1-1 score in Spain.
Or at least that's what everyone thought. But Stephen Rubini jumped under the yellow flag and lost 10 places, allowing Jago Geerts to win the second heat and Italian Gianluca Facchetti to take the overall victory thanks to his consistent results.
