Dylan Ferrandis leaves Kawasaki in 2017!
This afternoon there was big news at the press conference after the qualifying heats in Teutschenthal. Dylan Ferrandis reported that he has signed a two-year contract with the American Star Racing Yamaha team. In that team he will have to try to forget Cooper Webb and Jeremy Martin, among others, because these two are stepping up to the 450cc class.
It was not a real surprise that Dylan Ferrandis pursued a move to America. Well, this ultimately happened for Yamaha and not for Kawasaki. In 2014, this brand had the 21-year-old Frenchman sign a long-term contract with a 'USA' option. During the many interviews during the Lille Supercross, the 2016 season was put forward as the date of departure, but that date was already postponed to 2017 a few months later during the interviews at the Monster Energy Cup. Then the talented Frenchman would join the Pro Circuit Kawasaki team.
Was the postponement a sign of the future? Both Steve Guttridge (Kawasaki Europe) and Reid Nordin (Kawasaki America) had spoken out of turn with their promise of a place at Mitch Payton's Pro Circuit Kawasaki. Was Mitch Payton even interested in Dylan Ferrandis? In any case, not enough interest to make it work, because Dylan Ferrandis will try to realize his American dream on a Yamaha machine after years on Kawasaki.
