Cairoli now also wins Grand Prix at home in Trentino
Antonio Cairoli is Back… After the German Grand Prix last week, the 8-time world champion now also wins his home Grand Prix in Pietramurata, Italy. The Red Bull KTM rider already took victory in the first series and only had to finish second in the second series to secure the overall victory of the Grand Prix of Trentino. With this victory, Cairoli is gaining some points on the duo Gajser-Febvre for the second weekend in a row.
The young force with Tim Gajser and Romain Febvre made too many mistakes on Italian soil. Especially Gariboldi Honda rider Tim Gajser who was perhaps the fastest man on the circuit. In the first series he crashed after a bad start, but was still able to take fourth place. In the second heat, Gajser was in the lead until he made another mistake and ended up fourth. For defending champion Romain Febvre, things did not go well in the first series after a bad start and he only finished sixth. In the second series Febvre was able to take the victory ahead of Cairoli, which still gave him a podium place.
Strijbos just off the podium…
Suzuki World MXGP rider Kevin Strijbos missed the podium by just one point. In the first series he rode well to a third place behind Cairoli and Nagl. But after a poor start in the second series, he was still able to secure a sixth place, which gave him fourth place in the final standings of the Grand Prix. Monster Energy Yamaha rider Jeremy Van Horebeek took fifth place in both series, giving him seventh place in the final standings. In the world championship standings we find Van Horebeek and Strijbos in sixth and seventh place respectively.
