Nagl returns positive after a difficult start to the season
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna IceOne rider Max Nagl has finally found his speed in the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship. That is something that the German considers an important step forward with the set-up of the brand new FC450 engine. Nagl took the Pole position and his very first podium of the season by finishing second overall in the final standings of the European Grand Prix.
Twelve months ago, Nagl picked up three wins in the first four games of the 2015 campaign at the start of the season. The 28-year-old Nagl then stopped testing on the new '16 bike because he felt better on the older '15 bike. Nagl has now reached a point with the current bike that allows him to raise his level again after a 12-6 DNF-3 in the heats before he started in Valkenswaard.
“I am happy for myself and for the team, but somehow we gave away the victory because something went wrong in the beginning,” he said after the second series in Valkenswaard, especially after he had finished second in the opening sequence. “We still have to analyze it together about how this could have happened. I came from fifteenth to fourth, which was OK but… with a good start I could have been in the fight for the win today. On the other hand, this is already a big step forward considering how we started the season.”
“The first Grand Prix's always provide some information to allow us to make some improvements,” says team manager Antti Pyrhonen. “The speed is therefore much higher in the GPs than in the preparation races and the circuits are also different. The ultimate test is always the first GPs when the starting gate drops and we continue to work with that information every week.”
