Sidecar team Bax takes its first podium of the season in the Swiss Open
During the Easter weekend, sidecar team Bax competed in two races and achieved its first podium finish of this season! During the third competition for the Open Dutch Sidecar Cross Championship in Oldebroek it was clear that they have taken the right path. Thanks to a good time in timed training, they were able to start from the front row in both heats. Unfortunately, after falling from the starting gate, they came into contact with Daniel Willemsen and crashed. Right from the back they came back into the top ten, but due to a crash, after which they needed two laps to get the team running again, they were able to forget a good result. In the second heat they had clearly found their way. They rode in the top five in the early stages and were able to keep up a high pace. Unfortunately, the spark plug cap came off, forcing them to leave the competition.
On Sunday the mechanics worked hard to get started on Monday in the Swiss Open at the Frauenfeld circuit. The day started positively because the Bax brothers managed to set a second time in timed training behind Willemsen/Beunk and ahead of Bugler/Betschart.
In the first heat, Etienne and Robbie started in fourth place and managed to cross the finish line in third place. In the second moto they had to come from further away, but after a strong catch-up race they came all the way back from thirteenth to third place. With these results, the Bergeijk combination finished in third place in the daily rankings.
Comments Etienne Bax: “An educational day and being able to test many things in competition. We are not there yet, but we are moving in the right direction. We were able to drive all day without any problems and left with a good feeling about this day. It is important that we continue to press ahead and connect the dots. In Oss we have to limit the damage and we want to be there in the second GP. We as a team really needed this after all the setbacks of the last few weeks. Now there must be peace and trust. We will also be riding as much as possible over the next two weeks, to compensate for the overdue rhythm as best as possible. The beginning has been made!”
