Injury update Ken de Dycker
24MX Lucas Oil Honda rider Ken De Dycker broke his femur during a fall during training in Royal Hills (France) yesterday. The former MXoN winner underwent surgery today in a hospital in nearby Albi.
One week before the start of the FIM MXGP World Championship, De Dycker completed the final phase of his season preparation. The popular Belgian would normally start tomorrow in the international race of Lacapelle-Marival. In consultation with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ghijselings, Ken's leg was successfully secured during an operation earlier today.
In recent months, 'Keeno' has worked diligently to prepare himself together with coach Joël Roelants. The experienced De Dycker also did an excellent job when it came to the development of his Honda CRF450R. As a result, Ken lived with confidence towards the first GPs. De Dycker's injury is of course a setback for the newly formed 24MX Lucas Oil Honda team. In the coming days, the team will consult with its partners to decide how to deal with the absence of their star pilot.
Ken De Dycker: “Unfortunately, injuries are part of our sport. Knowing that I can't be there actually hurts even more than the issue itself. The fall itself was quite hard, causing me to break my right thigh and sustain a serious cut on my elbow. Fortunately, the operation to place a pin in the bone went well and I feel like new again!
Everyone worked really hard during the winter and we were actually right on schedule. I would certainly like to thank my trainer Joël, who arranged many practical matters regarding the operation. In addition, a thank you to all my sponsors, fans and friends who sent me messages to wish me well. I'm sure I can come back strong. I can't wait to show what we have worked so hard for.”
Marc Boone, 24MX Lucas Oil Honda team owner: “It's tough to be confronted with an injury like this. Of course this is very hard, especially because everything went very well. Both during training and testing we saw how motivated and professional Ken is. It quickly became clear that the 24MX Lucas Oil Honda CRF45OR was perfect for him. First and foremost, I would like to wish Ken a quick and complete recovery. It's great to see now how strong he is mentally. How he deals with this setback is a boost for the entire team. We are convinced that Ken will come back at least as strong. Thank you also to the people of Royal Hills and everyone who helped Ken after his fall.”
