Febvre out of contention for a while, but GP-Qatar not in danger
MXGP World Champion Romain Febve will miss next week's Valence International Motocross in France but will be ready for the start of the 2016 FIM World Championship in Qatar on February 27 after sustaining an elbow injury. The 24-year-old Frenchman crashed yesterday in the opening series in Lamezia Terme for the second stage of the Italian championship and had to visit the hospital to have the wound cleaned and stitched.
Febvre, who won the opening race in Sardinia last week, was in battle with Honda rider Evegeny Bobryshev and Yamaha teammate Jeremy Van Horebeek when he was introduced to the Lamezia Terme circuit in the second corner.
“It was just a bit too tight for Romain after a good start and he went down,” said Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Manager Mino Raspanti. “He needed some stitches and will probably not be allowed to drive for about ten days, but the situation could have been much worse.”
Van Horebeek took the overall victory in the international class and is now also ready to perhaps take the overall victory next week in the third and final match in Ottobiano.
