Febvre ready for final final Yamaha tests
Invitations and competitions on three continents in the past month have certainly not affected Romain Febvre's enthusiasm after such a brilliant 2015 season. The MXGP world champion only had an hour's recovery time, so to speak, from his SX debut in the Paris-Lille Supercross before he has to travel to Italy for further testing of his YZ450FM that took him to the title.
According to sources close to the Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube team, Febvre and his teammate Jeremy Van Horebeek have already made a lot of positive progress with their factory bikes in terms of the engine and the new frame they want to use. His exit to the final round of the championship in Sugo-Japan was immediately linked to a test session with the engineers of Iwata. The team immediately compared the character and performance of the engine. The Rinaldi YRRD department ensured that the 23-year-old Febvre will get some extra power at the starting gate. This was something Yamaha wanted to improve significantly for 2016, as Febvre was not as productive with the holeshots last season.
The new Yamaha testing in Italy will be used to find solutions and fine-tune the geometry. Furthermore, the team will return to Sardinia after the New Year to test the suspensions and start preparation for the new Grand Prix season.
2015 is almost over for Febvre, but he still has to present himself at the FIM Gala Award in Jerez, but this will happen after the testing. “Mettet (Superbiker Supermotard) was good and I finished second, then there was Japan and Lille which was for fun but where I was able to pick up some tips,” he said last Sunday in Lille. “At the end of this weekend I learned a lot, I think it was educational. 2015 has been a great season and it is now slowly coming to an end.”
