Team Grizzly Racing wins 2-hour and Team Narcos 3-hour from RES Axel
As Leon Van Gestel announced, one of the last outdoor events of the 2015 season will be held on the grounds of RES Axel. The 2-hour race for youth riders and the 3 hours for the big guns were finished today. Fortunately, the weather gods were kind to us and we didn't see a drop, it wasn't cold and the circuit was absolutely perfect. But of course it is still Axel, so being able to drive in the sand is a must.
De 2-hour race started off very strong for it EMD team that started with Smulders, they immediately left their mark on the competition. The team of Mc Mikkola with Ilan Heirwegh, Wannes Vandevoorde and Axel Fosse also got off to a strong start, but with their first substitution they were overtaken by the Grizzly Racing en AMC Evergem team.
The battle between AMC Evergem and the still leading EMD team seemed to be going on for a very long time. But as the match progresses, these duos find it increasingly difficult to compete against the Grizzly Racing trio (Ryan de Beer, Jens Walvoort, Dailey van de Ketterij). After halfway through the race, Grizzly Racing was able to take over second place for a while, but now they are definitely passing the AMC Evergem duo (Emilio Vannieuwnhuyze & Avo Tack), they are still trying to hang on, but the past has taught us that the 2-hour beating Axel with a duo is an almost impossible task. However, the EMD team (Scott Smulders, Eloy van Rijkevorsel) seems to break this position, after being in the lead for an entire match and with 10 minutes to go, disaster strikes. Team Grizzly, which just changed pilots and is entering the final with Daily Van de Ketterij, is suddenly in first place. The fatigue that crept into Eloy van Rijkevorsel's clothes cost him a slip, causing him to lose enough time to let Grizzly take the lead. The last 10 minutes were one to die for. Van de Ketterij (Grizzly) and van Rijkevorsel (EMD) fight to the death until the finish, where they are flagged with a difference of only 1.8 seconds in favor of the Grizzly Racing team. The EMD duo comes second and AMC Evergem, which also competed for the victory for a long time, comes 3rd.
In 3-hour race all eyes were on the Narcos team. With kingpin Pablo… I mean Marc de Reuver together with Roy Gijsel and Yentel Martens, this team seemed out of place. But it is AMC Evergem 1 (Nick Triest, Jeffrey Dewulf, Pascal Bal) that starts the strongest, Nick Triest goes all out from round one and opens a gap towards the Narcos team. Jochem Walckiers, who started for the MC Mikkola team 1 (Mark Boot, Matthias Van Roy, Jochem Walckiers) completed the top 3. Jago Geerts was also added to the field of participants, he was on the team with Yves Devlaminck and Rafael Coenen. With his 125cc he managed to make the switch in 4th, with lap times equal to those of Roy Gijsel. Unfortunately, they dropped back later in the race and eventually finished 13th.
For a long time it has been Team Narcos for AMC Evergem 1 and MC Mikkola 1. But after about an hour and a half of competition there is suddenly a direct duel on the track. Marc de reuver vs. Nick Triest, suddenly after a substitution the AMC Evergem team was in the lead. For a moment Triest tried to maintain the incredibly crazy pace of De Reuver, but after a small slide Triest decided that the race was still too long to push very hard. However, the race was not long enough to force Team Narcos back into the wrong, although Marc de Reuver had to start the very last lap with an apparently defective engine and went very slowly. However, they are still flagged as winners ahead of AMC Evergem 1 and MC Mikkola 1. The best team in the amateur class has become the local club of friends with Boy Stockman, Tom Cortvriendt and Timo Dhanis.
