Regulation changes for 2016 in the World Championship and EMX are happening.
Following annual customs, the motocross committee, which includes representatives from teams and manufacturers, met during the Motocross of Nations in Ernee. In this meeting led under the watchful eye of Giuseppe Luongo, Tony Skillington and Takanao Tsubouchi the following was decided;
• Riders can now use their second bike after their reconnaissance lap. This can be an advantage in heavy muddy conditions or if the pilot notices any defect during the reconnaissance round. Until now, the engine used for the reconnaissance lap was also required to be the competition engine. This rule was broken by Livia Lancelot in the last round of the World Championships in Loket. As a result, she was disqualified and lost her chance at the title.
• If a series is stopped by a lap flag after more than two laps and before 51% of the race time has elapsed, the restart will from now on take place from the pit lane. In addition, this will also be done in order of the positions at which the pilots were 'flagged'. After the restart, the remaining race time will be completed as usual.
• World championship points can now also be earned in the qualifying heats of both the MX2 and MXGP classes. This means that these qualifying matches are no longer only important for the starting position on Sunday, but also for the final settlement of the Grand Prix victory and World Championship standings. The points to be achieved in a qualification are as follows: “Position 1: 5 pts; pos. 2: 4 pts; pos. 3: 3 pts; pos. 4: 2 pts; pos. 5: 1 pt”.
