Robin Bakens takes 12th place in Oss
In Oss, the Netherlands, the competition for the ONK points took place on the beautiful natural circuit of the White Ruijshill. Despite all the rain, it was still good in Oss, but still nice and tough for the best motocross riders in the Netherlands and surrounding areas. Robin Bakens was also present with the CreyMert Racing team!
Things did not go smoothly for Robin in the time trials, with some problems with the setup and bad luck with the traffic on the track, he ended up in 18th place. Between practice and the first heat, the Honda's rear suspension was replaced in the hope of solving the adjustment problem. In the first heat these adjustments turned out not to improve the setup at all. The engine was still unstable, especially at the front, and Bakens came into contact with the dark sand in Oss up to 4 times. Ultimately he was able to finish the race in 15th place.
In the second moto Robin wanted to drive to the starting gate, but a problem with the throttle that kept faltering almost prevented that. The entire team worked hard to detect the problem, but with only 10 minutes to get to the closed riders' park, the problem was not found in time. The second series was started with a glitchy throttle. Bakens jumped out of the start with a 10th place as a result, but he had to lose some places in the hustle and bustle in the first laps. Towards the end of the series the problem with the throttle became worse and worse, the clutch was undoubtedly broken this weekend, because that was sometimes the only way to "close" the throttle. In the very last lap, Bakens unfortunately came into contact with a doubled rider, causing him to lose one place and finish in 12th place.
“Everything that could go wrong this weekend went wrong. First we had to look for a good setting and once it was a bit better we discovered a technical defect just before the heat. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time left to find a solution to this, so I registered myself at the start despite my gas problems. It was risky and I'm pretty sure the clutch of the CreyMert Honda has gone through now, but I still finished 12th in the second series and overall. I am not satisfied, but without a doubt I am relieved. Now it's time to rest a bit and then be able to compete in the very last ONK of the season in Mill!”
