Nathan Watson beats Ken de Dycker in Oss, Graulus wins MX2.
Not all top riders were lucky enough to travel to the center of American motocross. Some fast guys such as Filip Bengtsson, Ken de Dycker, Nathan Watson, Damon Graulus ... stayed at home to compete in the ONK in Oss. As usual we got the 85cc, 125cc, MX2 and MX1 class at the start!
In 85cc class was home rider, European and World 85cc Champion Raivo Dankers top favorite. He immediately fulfilled that role of favorite, at the start of the first heat he had to tolerate Rick Elzinga in front of him, but Dankers soon moved into the lead. Elzinga managed to hold on to second place and Loeka Thonies moved from outside the top 5 to third place. In the second moto we had a similar race, but this time it was Max Schwarte who took the holeshot, after two laps both Elzinga and Dankers had passed Schwarte and we had a wonderful duel between these two young lads. But once again it was Dankers who came out on top. Loeka Thonies again rode to third place. In the daily rankings, Raivo Dankers (1-1) wins ahead of Rick Elzinga (2-2) and Loeka Thonies (3-3). Belgians in the 85cc class; 38th Ilan Heirwegh
At the 125cc class If we expected fireworks from our compatriots Jago Geerts and Cyril Genot, they qualified first and second. However, in the first heat we saw a very bad start for both Belgians, Geerts came out of the first lap in 17th and Genot in 23rd. At the front we had a wonderful duel between the Spaniard Ruben Fernandez Garcia and the British Conrad Mewse. Fernandez Garcia had to give up his leading position for a few laps, but with 3 laps to go he moved back into the lead. We also had a duel for third and fourth place, this between Roan vd Moosdijk and Nick Horsten, they also exchanged pennies with Nick Horsten ultimately winning the prize. Jago Geerts climbed to 5th place and Cyril Genot to 8th place.
In the second round we got what we had expected with the timed training, a duel between our compatriots Cyril Genot and Jago Geerts. The Sahkar KTM rider Geerts had to come back from the back for a while, but about halfway through the race the duel had completely broken out. Ultimately, with 2 laps to go, it is Geerts who takes the victory ahead of Cyril Genot. Third was the British Conrad Mewse. In the daily rankings, Conrad Mewse (2-3), second Jago Geerts (5-1) and third Ruben Fernandez Garcia (1-5). Belgians in the 125cc class; 15th Mathias Van Roy, 17th Bo de Clercq.
In MX2 class For us Belgians, we were looking forward to Damon Graulus, the Kemea Yamaha rider was a big favorite for the day's victory in Oss and he lived up to these expectations. In the first heat he had to tolerate Freek van de Vlist and David Herbreteau for quite some time, but Graulus still came out on top. Freek van de Vlist finished second, due to the disappearance of David Herbreteau in the last lap. Lars Van Berkel finished third in the first heat. In the second round we again got Freek van de Vlist for Damoun Graulus and again after half way through the race Graulus made a successful attack. This time it was Ben Watson who was able to take third place. In the daily rankings it is Damon Graulus who wins (1-1) ahead of Lars Van Berkel (2-2) and Ben Watson (4-3). Belgians in the MX2 class; 12th Robin Bakens.
Finally the big boys, the MX1 class, with the big favorite being Ken de Dycker, who chose to stay in Europe to spend as much time as possible on the bike. However, fulfilling that role of favorite is not that easy, De Dycker has to replace Filip Bengtsson at the start in the first round. When the Swede makes a mistake and drops back to third place, it is Nathan Watson who increases the pressure on Keeno. Ultimately it is Watson who wins the heat ahead of De Dycker and Bengtsson, and good old Marc De Reuver firmly took 4th place. It's a similar scenario in the second moto, but Bengtsson can now no longer maintain his holeshot for more than one lap. De Dycker quickly came to the front, but halfway through the heat it was again Nathan Watson who came very strong and took the victory. De Reuver came third after overtaking from 6th place. In the daily rankings it is Nathan Watson (1-1) who wins ahead of Ken de Dycker (2-2) and Marc De Reuver (4-3). The Belgians in the MX1; 4th Kevin Wouts, 7th Nick Triest, 9th Mike Vanderstraeten, 14th Jeffrey Dewulf, 15th Andy Truyts, 16th Marvin Van Daele, 18th Kevin Fors, 19th Kristof Salaets, 30th Jochem Walckiers, 35th Joshua Feytons.
