Gajser is looking forward to riding supercross
HRC Gariboldi rider Tim Gajser is considering starting in Anaheim I for the first round of the Monster Energy AMA 250SX West Coast series. The Slovenian is currently in the middle of fighting for the MX2 world title, but is already making plans with his father to travel to California to gain some experience before his supercross debut.
“It's been a big dream since I was little,” he says. “I think every kid who starts racing thinks about supercross and riding in front of the crowds that come to the stadiums in the US. The whole opening ceremony and your name being called… I just wish 'Oh, my god'. I would like to try it, my father already prepared a supercross track for me at home and I have been training on it a lot.”
Father, trainer and mentor Bogo fully supports his son's ambitions and has therefore already taken some steps in Slovenia to help son Tim prepare before he crosses the Atlantic Ocean. “I am preparing everything for the United States,” he said. “We are going there in December to prepare ourselves well to start in Anaheim I. At home Tim has a training circuit that is half supercross and half motocross and I am sure that an American rider would even have a hard time on this.”
Tim Gajser is now training with the CRF450F and riding supercross is regularly on the training schedule, but is this already to compete in the AMA? “I need a bit more training for this now,” he admits realistically. “If you have a good winter and you are going to ride on the American circuits there in November or December, then I think yes… that this is necessary. I know it will be a big culture shock and a different way of life to race in America, but I don't think it will be a problem.”
With the first Grand Prix not on the provisional calendar for 2016 until the end of February, there is little chance of a full season in the US and everything is limited to a few wild cards. One of the conditions of Gajser's five-year contract with HRC is that he has the freedom to drive wherever he wants in the coming years. Together with HRC General Manager Roger Harvey, the #243 has decided to remain in the MX2016 class in 2 regardless of whether he wins the title or not.
