2 Belgians on the ONK podium in Markelo!
Today it was done markelo fought for the ONK points in the already well-known 85cc, 125cc, MX2 and MX1 classes. On the sandy circuit of the club 'Ons pleasure' you would expect a Dutch-Belgian party, but we have already seen in Lommel that this is outdated. Foreigners also spend enough time in the sand and have mastered this technique well. This was also reflected in the results in Markelo.
We start with the youngest, the 85cc class. It was in both motos Rick Elzinga who took the win, the Beursfoon rockstar ktm rider won ahead of the Dane Bastian Boegh Damm. Reigning European and World Champion Raivo Dankers placed his HSF logistics KTM in third place. We got one Belgian at the start, Ilan Heirweg takes 28th place overall thanks to a 26th and 27th place.
In 125cc class was looking forward to something Cyril Enjoyment en Iago Geerts could show. In the first heat Cyril Genot has bad luck at the start and only finishes 13th. Jago Geerts was in a good position, but lost third place after a crash halfway through the heat, meaning he finished 6th. Who didn't make any mistakes was Conrad Mewse, he won ahead of his teammate Jorge Prado García en Sander-Agard Michelsen. Pleasure ultimately comes 8th. In the second heat it was a Belgian party, Jago Geerts won the series ahead of Cyril Genot. Jorge Prado Garcia could not keep up with the pace of this duo and finished third, which was enough for the day's victory. The Spaniard preceded the Sahkar KTM riders Geerts and the New Zealander Josiah Natzke. Genot falls just off the podium with a fourth place. Another Belgian contribution was Bo de Clercq who finishes 23rd overall. And winner of the first round, Conrad Mewse did not score in the second round and had to settle for a 7th place overall.
De MX2 class had some nice people at the start, by that we mean of course Nancy Van de Ven ;-). As for the fast guys, it was up to the GP toppers Covington, Petrov, Bogers, Honey, Van Doninck, Granules en natural to determine who could accelerate the most. In the end this turned out to be Petar Petrov, who won both heats ahead of Thomas Covington and Harri Kullas. Brian Bogers and Benoit Paturel swapped places 4 and 5 and finished 4th and 5th in the daily rankings. The Belgians also managed to put in a good performance. Damon Graulus came 6th, Brent Van Doninck 7th and Robin Bakens 12e.
Finally the king classit's from MX1 had slightly fewer GP riders at the start, but that did not mean they slowed down. This is how the Husqvarna factory rider was allowed Dean Ferris home with the largest cup. The Australian won both heats, he won the first heat Ciriel Klein Kromhof 24MX rider beforehand and in the second round Philip Bengtsson. Ciriel Klein Kromhof, with a third place in the second heat, was also enough to take second place in the daily rankings. Jeffrey Dewulf again put in a consistent performance and took the podium with a 3rd and 5th place. Filip Bengtsson, who finished 2nd in the second round, had to make do with a poorer first round, which meant he missed out on the podium and ended up only 6th in the daily rankings. We can be proud of the Belgians, Marvin Van Daele just missed the podium in 4th place, Mike Van der Straeten came 7th and Andy Truyts 9e.
Regarding the standings in the ONKs, it seems that Rick Elzinga is well on his way to the ONK title. In the 125cc class it seems to be a three-way battle between the factory KTM men Jorge Prado Garcia and Conrad Mewse against our compatriot, Husqvarna rider Cyril Genot. The MX2 ONK title battle is completely wide open, 9 riders are only 29 points apart. In the MX1 class, regular Ciriel Klein Kromhof feels the hot breath of multiple winner Dean Ferris. But there are several close by, including our compatriot Jeffrey Dewulf! For detailed rankings I would like to refer you to the following pages.
