Also Dutch success at the Junior World Cup
After the youth European Championship final last week, the youngest talents among us were able to prove themselves once again at international level. This time at the very highest FIM world championship level. The Spanish circuit El Molar near Madrid hosted the Junior MX World Championship where both the 85cc and 125cc classes will compete. The 65cc class no longer has a world championship this year, at least on paper, but you can safely say that they were also fighting for a world title this weekend.
We'll also start right away with the 65cc class. In the slush of Kegums, the Dutchman Kay Karssemakers still had to deal with bad luck, but on the very hard and dry circuit of El Molar there was no limit for this little Dutchman. The Beursfoon rockstar energy KTM rider managed to win both heats and thus take home the unofficial world title in the 65cc class. Behind him, Adam Kovacs from Hungary and Radek Vetrovski from the Czech Republic are on the podium. Belgians were present in this class Liam Evert en Yoran Moens. Everts finished in 12th place overall and Moens in 20th place.
In 85cc class Dutchman Rick Elzinga was out for revenge, and with the retirement of Mikkel Haarup he was also a huge favorite for the world title. But that was not taken into account by HSF Logistics rider Raivo Dankers. Dankers showed that he can not only go fast on sand tracks but can also go fast on a concrete hard track. In the first series he wins ahead of Bastian Boegh Damm and Rene Hofer, Rick Elzinga only finished 8th and had already disappeared from the title race. In the second series, Dankers has to settle for 3rd place, but that is enough for the brand new European champion to also win the world title. The winner of this second round was the Frenchman Brian Moreau ahead of the Czech Petr Polak. It is then Dankers who becomes world champion ahead of Brian Moreau and the Dane Bastian Boegh Damm.
In 125cc class we were looking forward to home rider and top favorite Jorge Prado Garcia. The man who had to miss the Junior World Cup in Lierneux last year due to an injury sustained during the training for the Youth European Championship final, has now, against all expectations, not played a significant role. It is Maxime Renaux's Yamaha that took pride of place on the top scaffold. The Kemea Yamaha rider won both heats and is therefore world champion. The British Conrad Mewse, the 85 2013cc world champion, finished second twice and narrowly missed out on the world title. Third, Australian Hunter Lawrence takes the podium. In 2013 he also managed to finish just behind his peer Mewse, which means he has achieved no less than 2 junior World Championship podiums in 3 years. The Belgians in these classes have not always had an easy time on the concrete-hard track. Nevertheless, Nathan Renkens achieved a good 10th place, Jago Geerts managed a good 11th place in the second heat and thus finished 16th overall. Cyril Genot and Matthias Van Roy missed the points and finished 26th and 40th overall.
Let's take a look at all the results.
