Experience the Belgian Motocross Grand Prix!
Experience it! On August 1 and 2, the best motocross pilots, active in the world championship, will travel to Lommel in Limburg. The Lommel course is known as the toughest motocross course in the world and that provides a spectacle year after year.
The Municipal Motocross Center of Lommel will provide the stage for the 14th round of the eighteen-round world championship. And the injury-ridden world championship is wide open. In the MX2 class we saw World Championship leader Jeffrey Herlings end his season due to an injury in the Czech Loket. As a result, many competitors suddenly see their opportunity. Suddenly the MX2 World Championship has turned from a battle against the supreme Jeffrey Herlings into an open battle between Tim Gasjer, Valentin Guillod, Pauls Jonass, Jeremy Seewer, Jordi Tixier and even Max Anstie. The Lommel route will undoubtedly play a role in this battle, not to mention a key role!
In the MXGP class, the title seems to be headed to Romain Febvre, the Frenchman is the only one left standing while competitors such as Ryan Villopoto, Clément Desalle, Max Nagl and finally Tony Cairoli were injured... The only one who can now threaten the Yamaha Rinaldi pilot in fellow countryman Gautier Paulin. He already showed in Valkenswaard that sand is one of his favorite surfaces. The HRC Honda pilot also needs two strong results in Lommel if he wants to stay in the title hunt. Two series victories for the HRC Honda pilot could give the championship some momentum again.
For us Belgians we have to wait and see whether another Belgian can win the home grand prix of Lommel. However, in history this has only happened three times before with Marnicq Bervoets in 1993, Stefan Everts in 1994 and Ken De Dycker in 2009. However, it is now not inconceivable that in the MXGP class one of our compatriots such as Kevin Strijbos, Jeremy Van Horebeek or Clément Desalle will enter the highest scaffold. In the MX2 class, a podium finish for one of our young wolves is undoubtedly a possibility…
