Febvre proves to be the strongest twice!
Today the eleventh round of the World Championship was contested in Uddevalla, Sweden. Ryan Villopoto, Clément Desalle and Max Nagl were not at the start in Sweden. The leader in the MXGP World Championship, Romain Febvre was at the start and the competition knew that. The Frenchman took a mighty holeshot in the first moto, and with that his story is immediately told. The Yamaha pilot dominated the race from start to finish and the opposition only noticed him again after the finish. Behind Romain Febvre, Evgeny Bobryshev, Jeremy Van Horebeek and Dean Ferris, among others, were fighting for positions. Unfortunately, Russian Bobryshev had bad luck halfway through the match, forcing him to abandon the match. This allowed Jeremy Van Horebeek to move up to second place. The Belgian stayed ahead of a strong performing Shaun Simpson and both Australians, Dean Ferris and Todd Waters. And what about Antonio Cairoli, Romain Febvre's biggest competitor, you ask? The Italian was not immediately lucky in the first moto, after a reasonable start we saw Antonio Cairoli cruising around in eighth place, but this was only short-lived. A mistake sent him back to twentieth place and then finished in thirteenth place. Once again the Sicilian loses expensive points, in pursuit of Romain Febvre.
In the second heat we saw our compatriot Kevin Strijbos get away best ahead of red plate holder, Romain Febvre. This was an immediate precursor to what would become a great match. Romain Febvre showed lap after lap that he could negotiate the Swedish course a little faster than Kevin Strijbos, yet our compatriot managed to answer every pinpoint shot from the Frenchman. This caused some frustration for the Yamaha pilot, who certainly made some mistakes. Yet Romain continued to push Febvre to pass Kevin Strijbos on the penultimate lap. The Rockstar Energy Suzuki pilot tried to push back, but to no avail. Romain Febvre won his second round in a row ahead of Kevin Strijbos and Antonio Cairoli who, after a great start, managed to resist the pressure from the emerging Dean Ferris and Jeremy Van Horebeek. In the general classification of the day, Kevin Strijbos and Jeremy Van Horebeek flanked a triumphant Romain Febvre on the podium.
