EMX300: Yentel Martens breaks scaphoid bone, Marco Maddi takes full advantage
An eventful match, that's the least you can say about it EMX300 class who took office in Sweden. The leader in the championship, our very own Yentel Martens, started the Swedish GP with a lead of 33 points over the Italian Marco Maddi.
In first heat There was not much to report, the holeshot was immediately for Yentel Martens, ahead of the Italian Marco Maddi and the British Matthew Moffat. It seemed to be an easy victory for our compatriot, but disaster struck on the very last jump, less than 200m from the finish line. Yentel goes off hard and falls loose on his wrist, he still manages to get his Husqvarna going and crosses the finish line second after Maddi and ahead of fellow countryman Dietger Damiaens. Yet it is thickened and hard, a broken scaphoid bone, better known as the skipper's bone in the wrist.
Series 1 highlights
In second heat we will unfortunately have to miss Yentel Martens, the championship leader has decided not to cause any further damage to the wrist and to undergo surgery immediately on Monday. Not to worry for the Belgians, Dietger Damiaens took the holeshot and led 11 of the 15 laps. Unfortunately, fatigue set in and both Marco Maddi and Matthew Moffat managed to pass our compatriot.
For the overall it is simple, Marco Maddi wins the EMX300 GP of Sweden with two moto victories, Dietger Damiaens comes second with two third places and third, home rider Jimmie Allen took the podium with two fourth places. In the championship standings, Yentel Martens is only 5 points ahead of Marco Maddi. In three weeks the next match will be held in the Czech Loket, followed by the final match in Lommel. It remains to be seen whether Martens will be able to patch himself up so quickly.
