Second KTM Racing Center EnduroCross is a direct hit!
Sometimes life is just generous. Beautiful weather and a motorcycle race just twenty minutes from home, making sleeping in still an option... What more could a person need on the sixth of June? That's what my brother and I thought and we went to the Bosuil Stadium where the second edition of the KTM Racing Center Endurocross was organized around the historic Bosuil stadium.
It was immediately clear from the large turnout that the people of Antwerp do not only love football. An audience consisting of motorsport fans and Antwerp residents enjoyed the spectacle. The beautifully designed course provided the necessary challenge for everyone, both non- and license holders.
In the non-license holders category we saw an intense duel between Lucien Rais and Olivier Vanmarcke in the final. Both men went all out for the win and in the end we saw Olivier Vanmarcke come out on top. Lucien Rais was joined in the last lap by Ake Hens, who started in last place. This attempt left Lucien Rais on the ground and Ake Hens ended up in second place ahead of Dany Nuyens and the unfortunate Lucien Rais.
In the licensees category, all eyes were on the towering favorite Jean-Francois Goblet. Yet we saw Michael Vukcevic leave in front of Maxime Warenghien, Bengt Laeremans and only then top favorite Goblet. However, JF Goblet made quick work of Bengt Laeremans to then pass Michael Vukcevic, who had just been passed by Maxime Warenghien. This gave us a duel between Warenghien and Goblet. Warenghien defended himself like a devil in a holy water font and simply refused to give in. We had a very close duel. But in the end, the Husqvarna pilot Goblet stuck his motorcycle inside. Maxime Warenghien then tried to follow the high pace, but quickly made a mistake. As a result, he had to work for a while to keep the rivals Bengt Laeremans and Michael Vukcevic behind him, who eventually crossed the finish line in third and fourth.
