Top – 8 for Christophe Charlier in Teutschenthal
24MX Honda rider Christophe Charlier has started the second half of the season strongly. In the German GP, Charlier took 8th and 10th place in the heats, good for an 8th place in the final standings. This is the best MXGP result yet for the French rookie in the top class.
The super-fast Talkessel circuit in the former East Germany is a permanent fixture on the World Cup calendar. The drivers needed little adjustment time on Saturday. In the timed training, Christophe was hindered during his fast lap so that he was stuck in 11th place. In the qualifying race, on the other hand, things went smoothly. After a good start and a regular race, Charlier finished 8th.
Better weather conditions and ample public interest gave the competition day even more allure. In both heats CC23 came into contact with Todd Waters at the start, which cost him a few places each time. For almost the entire first race, the 24MX Honda pilot chased Shaun Simpson but just missed out on passing him. As a result, Charlier ultimately finished 8th.
The second race was in many ways a carbon copy of the first. When the 23-year-old Frenchman hung 8th, Simpson made the mistake for him. When he left again, he hindered the Charlier who was coming behind. Christophe paid for that small hiccup in cash because both Van Horebeek and Bobryshev could benefit. In the second half of the match, Christophe Charlier continued to hang on to Simpson. Ultimately, the Panolin ambassador piloted his CRF450R to 10th place, barely 2,8 seconds behind Simpson. Christophe did a good job in the World Cup standings, jumping from 19 to 17.
Christophe Charlier: “It was a positive weekend for me. Things went well in the qualifying race, so I had a good starting position. Although I like hard tracks, the track was very difficult this weekend. The circuit was tough and treacherous, and it was also fast and difficult to make a difference. My starts were okay, but I was unlucky enough to meet Todd (Waters) every time, so I had to make every effort to get through the first corner on two wheels. With a better start, in the top 5, I know there is more to it. That is important because with the high rhythm at the front it would otherwise be extremely difficult to come back from further down the field. We are optimistic because things are getting better at the moment. I felt that the speed is coming and we continue to make progress with the bike.”
