Villopoto gets a lot of questions about 2016!!!
MXGP star Ryan Villopoto is already coming under pressure about what his plans are for 2016 and may consider adding another season and taking that MXGP world title before he hangs up his helmet. The American is constantly bombarded with these questions about his future. To date, he has only been on the podium once in the past five Grand Prix's, with a victory in Thailand where he scored a 1-3 place.
The FIM series has seen an increase in visitor numbers since the opening GP of Losail in Qatar and this is partly due to the crew of the Monster Energy KRT team with the so-called “Villopoto effect”. Keeping Ryan Villopoto in the Grand Prix for an extra year, doing well in the MXGP, an increase in spectators, good promotion for Youthstream and Kawasaki, that together with main sponsor Monster Energy, may well break the harmony of Red Bull KTM.
At the presentation of KRT 2015 on Friday evening in Valkenswaard, Villopoto confirmed that Kawasaki had already asked him this question. The manufacturer is therefore keen to avoid the situation last summer where they had to wait until Villopoto had made his decision to announce the 2015 pilots. “I get this question a lot,” he said. Referring to the curiosity about his prospects for the future. Because it seems more like he needs time to adapt to MXGP, rather than come and dominate as many fans hoped.
“As now, we should not look back and think too much, we should concentrate on what is in front of us and what we have to work towards,” he added. “We were a bit behind at the beginning of the season and we were testing in the wrong places like in the States where it is completely different. I have to work more on that. Steve (Guttridge, Kawasaki Motor Europe Race Manager) recently asked me if I had already made a decision about what I want to do next… Are you sticking to your decision or are you going to change it.”
