Video: Kyle Regal crowned Arenacross champion
Last night the final round of the arenacross championship was contested in Las Vegas. For those who don't know or follow Arenacross, this is the little brother of the AMA Supercross and takes place in smaller sports temples built for basketball, volleyball or something like ice hockey. Going into the last final evening, fighters Kyle Regal, competing for the Husqvarna TiLUBE TUF Racing team, and Jacob Hayes, competing for Babbitt's Monster Energy Amsoil Kawasaki, were both first with an equal number of points...
With a history that has grown between Kyle Regal and Jacob Hayes over the past two years, we were looking forward to seeing how things would go there in Las Vegas. Both indicated in the run-up to the match that they might be the fight of the weekend, many are blessed knowing that Mayweather-Pacquiao will also take place in Las Vegas tonight. So the 'I'll drive you with your feet up' mentality was in the air.
Yet the first of two finals took place in a sporting atmosphere, so to speak. Jacob Hayes won this one ahead of Kyle Regal, and with the points count being 15, 14, 13 and so on, nothing was decided yet. The tension only increased. Too big for Jacob Hayes, as it turned out, because what the Kawasaki pilot achieved just after the start with competitor Kyle Regal defies all imagination. As you can see in the videos below, the Babbitt' Kawasaki pilot torpedoes the Kyle Regal, but as if Karma himself participated, the Kawasaki sustains heavy damage. This means the end of the match and also the end of title hopes for Jacob Hayes! Kyle Regal himself managed to recover after the crash and only needed a ninth place to win his first Arenacross title of his career!
To round it out, KTM pilot Gared Steinke won the overall with a fourth and first place in the finals, ahead of Kyle Regal with his second and ninth place and Steven Mages with a ninth and third position.
