2016 Junior World Cup in Russia
Today it was announced that the 2016 Junior World Championship will take place in Russia. This in Orlyonok, where a qualifying match for the 'Eastern European Championship' took place last weekend.
The fact that Russia is chosen as a host country may be difficult to accept for some, given the current worldview. But sport is mainly relaxation and political factors do not necessarily have to be a reason not to go to a certain country.
Still, Orlyonok, located in Krasnodar Province, is a standout choice. It borders directly on Crimea. You know, the region that is still officially part of Ukraine, but that Russia annexed about 15 to 16 months ago. Throughout Ukraine we saw a war starting between pro-European Ukrainians and Russian-minded Ukrainians. A pastry that still continues today with pinpricks from both sides.
Now we assume that Orlyonok is 110% safe, otherwise David Luongo (Youthstream), Alexander Dzheus (Russian Federation) and Boris Suslonov (Krasnodar Federation) would not have placed this competition on the calendar for 2016. In addition, last weekend, as already mentioned, a qualifying competition for the 'Eastern European Championship'. However, we would like to point out that all roads to Orlyonok pass through unstable Ukraine. We'll just assume that this will benefit the adventure...
