Injury update from Robin Bakens
It's been a while since the opening round of the Belgian motocross championship in Moerbeke-Waas. What seemed to be an interesting season for Robin Bakens after a third place in the first heat was immediately nipped in the bud in the second heat. Due to a contact between two other riders, the Yamaha rider found himself in a dire situation and fell over at almost full speed. The heat was barely one lap away…
What is the current situation with the Braems concrete works supported rider? We asked him ourselves. “I'm doing quite well. It was difficult for a while, especially because that first moto was so good and I was really looking forward to it. It was also without a doubt one of the most painful injuries of my career. The fracture went all the way to the joint of the wrist and there was a lot of displacement, bones that I had no idea were also in my wrist.” According to Bakens.
Last Wednesday the plaster was removed from around the wrist and we will immediately work on mobility and strength. Physiotherapist Frederik Adriaensens will ensure that Robin returns to his old self. On May 13, doctor Nuyts will also make a statement about the strength of the bone and when the Yamaha rider can start riding again. Yet Bakens told us that he will not get back on the motorcycle until the physiotherapist gives his approval.
And what does such an injured pilot do in the meantime?
“Eating cheese and dairy products in abundance haha. No, seriously, I haven't done much. I did participate in the Wings for life world run, together with my buddy Lesley. We thought we could walk about 18 kilometers, but it ended up being 26! The physical appearance still seems completely fine. What an experience, so many people running for a good cause, the atmosphere before and after the race, running, suffering together... it was really cool to participate in this!”
In addition, Robin Bakens has also acted as a guest speaker at Herbalife24. Robin has been using Herbalife24 products since this season and feels very good about them, he feels more energetic, he recovers faster and it is a great company to work with. That's why he likes to share his experiences as a guest speaker and how Herbalife24 helps him drive his fastest laps at the end of the heat.
With such an injury you also see who you can count on and that is why Robin would like to thank his family & friends and of course the people who also support him financially!
