Bengtsson on the podium in Tibro!
Race report 1st round Swedish Championship – Tibro Reigning champion Filip Bengtsson finished third today during the opening round of the Swedish championship in Tibro. Rasmus Sjöberg won the final standings on the former GP circuit. Jesper Jönsson came second.
Fillibang dominated the two-day race until the second heat on Sunday. The 24MX Honda rider set the fastest time in timed practice and easily won his qualifying race on Saturday. Day one was characterized by harsh conditions, even by Swedish standards.
Fortunately, the cold was hardly noticeable the next day. Bengtsson rode his CRF450R convincingly to a holeshot in the first heat. He then neatly controlled his race and finished with a bonus of 12,5 seconds on Sjöberg.
Filip also stormed to the holeshot in the second race. Unfortunately things went wrong when he was in the lead. He bent both his steering wheel and radiators. Moreover, it also took a while before he could get on the road again. He managed to come back from 38th place to 6th.
Filip Bengtsson: “My start was fine, my speed was good and my condition is also good... Only the icing on the cake was missing! I am really disappointed with the end result because I showed that I was the fastest this weekend. It was a real shame that I couldn't enjoy riding much in the second series when the track was actually in perfect condition. I just slid out the front, hit the shoulder and hit the ground. Fortunately without much problem. A small mistake that I unfortunately paid in cash. Now I'm focusing on the next MXGP, Talavera in Spain. I'm looking forward to it!"
