VLM introduces new force and noise tests.
We have just received the news that the VLM has purchased new equipment to carry out power and noise checks. This decision was made due to persistent complaints from nature groups and the increasing number of injuries in the paddock. Both controls will be applied next weekend during the Easter Trophy in Meeuwen, where the Youth will complete their competitions on April 4 and the other classes on April 5 & 6.
The power test is a completely new system in motocross. The well-known 'roles' of the police will be used for this and slick tires will be provided by the organization. It is impossible to perform this test with studded tires. The reason for this new measure is too many injuries. A modern engine is so powerful these days that the average enthusiast is more of a passenger than a pilot at the end of the range. As a result, the VLM has made a decision and set limits on the maximum speed and torque that a motorcycle may develop. Next year, the classes will also be divided in this way instead of the traditional MX1, MX2, etc.
Also revolutionary is their sound test. Following the new legislation regarding drones that will be introduced this summer, the noise meters will fly above the circuit during the series. This is to be able to make absolutely optimal and realistic measurements. This decision came after a hate campaign by the action group Red de Rust against several Flemish motocross federations. The VLM also wants to state that they are aware of the problem and want to tackle it in an extremely professional manner.
