Van Horebeek: I am certainly disappointed…
The 2014 MXGP Vice World Champion Jeremy Van Horebeek will be sidelined for the next two GPs with a fracture to a foot bone in his left foot, and a recovery of about three weeks is certainly expected.
The Yamaha rider crashed twice in the second series of the Grand Prix of Trentino last weekend, but during the second fall he twisted his foot and also suffered a fracture. So he will now have to be in a plaster cast for almost a month. Van Horebeek will therefore have to miss the fifth and sixth races, starting with the European Grand Prix this weekend in the sand of Valkenswaard and also the Spanish GP in Talavera de la Reina on May 10. The plaster will be removed a day later on May 11 and then 'JVH' will still have two weeks to prepare for the British GP.
“I'm certainly disappointed... but that's life,” he says. “Last year everything went so perfectly and there was hope of becoming one of the title candidates this season, but this has also happened before with Desalle and Paulin or other boys. I have the speed and I have no doubt about that, but I also note that I have already been on the ground too much this season.”
“Now that this is over, I want to be fine as quickly as possible and see what the season will bring,” he added. “It's been a tough start this season and I think this break will be good in some way. I will definitely continue to improve my fitness and see what else I can do to stay in shape.”
It has been an unfortunate start to the season for the 25-year-old who has failed to finish in the top three, only making the top five three times in the eight heats held so far. Van Horebeek was also proud last weekend that he had fallen more in the first four GPs than in the past five years. The first tests in the pre-season were hopeful for the Yamaha Yamalube team and immediately the reports came that the #89 was faster than ever. But Van Horebeek was somewhat surpassed by his new teammate Romain Febvre, who is currently fourth in the championship standings as an “MXGP Rookie”.
