PR: Jeffrey Dewulf drops one place in the BC
The second match of the Belgian Championship has become one to quickly forget for Jeffrey Dewulf. The SDS Racing rider finished fourteenth in the overall standings despite dropping out during the second round. The Yamaha rider loses one place in the standings, after two of the five races he occupies fifth place. The victory on the sand circuit of Mons went to reigning champion Jeremy Van Horebeek.
Things already went wrong in training for Jeffrey, who stopped in the second lap due to a broken rear axle. As a result, he was unable to set time in the time training, so he had to start from the second row in the races over 20 minutes and one lap.
The first heat started reasonably well and from outside the top twenty the Jabek native quickly managed to work his way to the front. After three laps Jeffrey enters the top ten, but then something goes wrong, resulting in a crash. Fortunately, the competition continues, but there is no more than 16th place. The circuit was tough and even wet here and there, which did not make overtaking any easier.
The second heat lasted until the first corner, where the 23-year-old rider was involved in a massive crash. Unfortunately, the Yamaha did not emerge from this crash unscathed and the race ended prematurely with a lot of damage.
Before the third heat, the mechanics managed to repair and put everything right again. Starting the race from the second row is of course not ideal, but the first round was completed in the top twenty. The Ultimate Suspension-backed rider then plays for 'Pacman' and manages to gain twelve places in just five laps! The circuit became increasingly drier, resulting in more lines. Arriving in seventh place, the gap to Yamaha colleague Benoit Paturel is considerable. Of course, the rider supported by Loonbedrijf Verhulst is still trying to climb to sixth place. Partly due to some bad luck with those left behind, the Frenchman was unable to connect and Jeffrey finished seventh. “It's not a great day, but fortunately we managed to end it on a positive note. In the standings I lose one place to Yentel Martens, but the season is still long. I would like to thank Han from Ultimate Suspension for the efforts of the last few weeks. We have made great strides with the suspension adjustment and hopefully we can benefit from this soon. “ says Jeffrey after the last heat.
Next game:
In two weeks the European Grand Prix will be held at the Eurocircuit of Valkenswaard. Jeffrey is not yet on the participants list, but the Yamaha rider still hopes for an invitation. The Belgian Championships will continue on June 7 at the famous Kesterheide
