Herlings on the hunt for number six
The Grand Prix of Trentino was a bad experience for Red Bull KTM rider Jeffrey Herlings. Especially now that the former two-time MX2 world champion suffered a defeat for the first time since 2012 without the influence of injury or mechanical problems. The 20-year-old Herlings has a phenomenal career of 43 GP victories to his name at the end of 2014 and added another two this season thanks to successes in Qatar and Thailand. In Argentina, Dylan Ferrandis was on the highest step of the podium and last Sunday at the Pietramurata circuit in Arco di Trento, Herlings had to leave the victory with an equal number of points to Tim Gajser due to a better result in the second series.
But Herlings is certainly ready to hit back at his home Grand Prix in Valkenswaard next weekend, not only to get back on the winning side but also to further extend his record in the Dutch sand that has stood since 2010. It was five years ago that Herlings had his first success as a fifteen-year-old rider on the Factory KTM. He dominated the GP in Valkenswaard every year and showed off the special '6' kit from Alpinestars for his audience that had traveled to the circuit close to Eindhoven.
“I really hope that I will succeed,” said Herlings, who is aware of the series of victories on the Eurocircuit. “The GP is only 45 minutes from my home. I'm just going to get my training done and do my thing this week. Every GP victory is important to me, but setting a record is fun and I will focus on it.”
By the way, Herlings has the same record on the Valkenswaard circuit as Tony Cairoli. The Sicilian has also won the Eurocircuit every season since 2010 and deserves a special trophy from the Dutch in honor of their achievements.
