Mixed feelings for Febvre after Argentinian MXGP.
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Romain Febvre strangely walked around the Neuquen paddock like a frustrated figure after the Argentine Grand Prix. The MXGP Rookie has amazed many people with its speed on the factory YZ450FM. The winner of the Grand Prix of Goias MX2 in 2014 was not satisfied with his eighth place after crashing twice in the first series. It was also his worst result of his 2015 campaign so far.
The 23-year-old Febvre only started his Grand Prix adventure in 2012 and already took his first podium place in 2013. In reality, he certainly shouldn't feel too down with a sixth, fourth and seventh place in the final standings of the past GPs and he is certainly one of the best graduated MX2 riders from last season. The former KTM and Husqvarna rider is still exploring the limits of his Factory Yamaha bike this new season.
“Maybe I was a bit too aggressive, but the speed is good for the moment and I think the team is happy with that,” was his evaluation after the match in Argentina. Febvre has increased the pressure on Van Horebeek, but they continue to get along well both on and off the track.
“I definitely wanted to pass Jeremy,” he said after the second heat where the two Yamahas battled each other for the third time this season. “I closed the gap with him when he made some mistakes and then he did the same when I made a mistake. It was difficult on this track to make a big difference against another driver.”
Febvre is one of the leading riders who will be on the second line behind Clement Desalle, Tony Cairoli, Max Nagl and Ryan Villopoto who have all taken a series victory so far. The #461 is currently in sixth place in the standings, just one point behind HRC driver Gautier Paulin. “I think in the second heat the top six were separated by just over ten seconds and that's really close. This means that one mistake can be seriously punished. “
