PR: Glenn Coldenhoff takes first top ten place in the MXGP World Championship in Qatar
Glenn Coldenhoff of the Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe Team immediately achieved a top ten place in the first race of the MXGP World Championship in Qatar. Glenn was far from fit at the start in Qatar because he still had a lot of problems with his back and his two broken toes while driving. In the first moto he started well but was absolutely unable to get into his rhythm and therefore dropped to eighteenth place. In the second moto things went much better and he managed to fight back from fifteenth place to an impressive tenth place.
Glenn came to Qatar unfit. He still suffers from pain in his back and is still bothered by his two broken toes while driving. It is all still sensitive, especially when shifting gears, so an aluminum plate has been made on Glenn's boot to ease the pain while driving. The field of participants in the MXGP class is very tough this year and you really have to be in good shape to be able to participate. On Friday, Glenn could not yet find his way on the circuit. He suffered a lot from pumped up arms and therefore did not get further than fourteenth place in the qualifying heat.
In the first moto Glenn got a very good start and was in the top five when the field came out of the first corner. The pace was immediately killer and because Glenn was not in his rhythm, he immediately had to let several riders pass. He tried to ride less cramped, but this did not work and because he also suffered from pumped arms, it became a tough race for the rider from Heesch. Still, he fought for what he was worth and managed to score three World Championship points with an eighteenth place.
Glenn hoped for a better flow in the second moto. Fortunately, this happened because after a poor start he came back to the front from fifteenth place. Glenn stood his ground among the absolute world top and managed to work his way to the front with controlled overtaking maneuvers. After a strong race, this earned him a nice tenth place!
With an 18-10 in the heats, Glenn finished in thirteenth place in the daily rankings. Next weekend the World Championship continues in Thailand.
