Just outside the top ten for Mike Vanderstraeten!
The conditions were particularly bad during the second match of the KNMV Open Dutch Championship. The normally beautiful circuit 'De Kappenbulten' had to deal with an awful lot of water. Mike Vanderstraeten, competing in the colors of GM Racing, finished eleventh during the first round. Later it turned out to be the only round because the race management decided to cancel the race early. The victory in the MX1 class went to the Austrian Pascal Rauchenecker, Ceriel Klein Kromhof is the new leader in the standings.
The circuit is getting worse and worse due to the precipitation that keeps falling. A good start is very important because a 'dry line' will arise and when you get away from it you have a problem. The first moto starts well for the Husqvarna rider who comes out of the first corner in around tenth place. However, things go wrong in the second corner and Mike is involved in a crash with four colleagues. Everyone can move on, but of course a lot of time is lost. The driver, supported by Airport Service JL, gives chase and ends the first round in 32nd place. Fortunately, the right pace is quickly found and Mike drives further and further forward. After more than 20 minutes of competition, tenth place is taken over from the Swede Jesper Jonsson. Tenth place seems to go to the rider from Tessenderlo, but fellow countryman Jeffrey Dewulf thinks differently and strikes in the last lap. Eleventh place goes to Mike who can look back proudly on this first heat that did not start well but was then continued well. The competition management, in consultation with the organization and the security services, decides that the second competition will be cancelled. The result of the first round is therefore also the daily ranking.

The Belgian Championship will continue in two weeks at the Mons circuit. Another two weeks later, Mike hopes to be able to appear at the start during the fifth race of the FIM World Championship MXGP at the Valkenswaard circuit. The KNMV ONK will continue on May 14 at the beautiful Rhenen circuit.
