Mike Vanderstraeten gets the best out of it.
In Moerbeke-Waas, Mike Vanderstraeten managed to get the best out of it during the first match of the Belgian Championship. The Husqvarna rider couldn't find his way, which meant he didn't get the best starting position. All three heats were a catch-up race, resulting in a 14th place in the daily rankings. The victory went to the reigning champion, Jeremy Van Horebeek managed to win all three heats.
Things aren't going well in training, which is why the GM Racing driver only managed to qualify 32nd. From an outside starting spot, the Bel-Ray supported rider knew he was in for a tough race. To make things even harder, Mike was also involved in a crash at the start of the first moto. A strong catch-up race subsequently earned him 22nd place.
Fortunately, the second heat of the day over 20 minutes and one lap goes better. The rider from Tessenderlo starts the race just outside the top twenty in which he quickly works his way up. A nice duel ensues with the very experienced Marvin Vandaele. 23-year-old Mike is satisfied with a fourteenth place. The last heat of the day will also be a big catch-up race. During the break we worked on the Stop&Go Suspension and it was a bull's eye. From 29th place, Mike worked his way up very neatly to thirteenth place. Now he is also in a fight with Vandaele, who does not lose sight of his compatriot. In the last lap it happens, Vandaele passes by and 'VDS' is also flagged as fourteenth in this round.
Next competition: The KNMV ONK will continue on March 29, next week Mike will be hunting for more points on the HALMAC circuit in Halle.
