The die has been cast, the game has started!
The die has been cast for the first time, the game has started. A sports season often also seems like a game of 'Don't annoy people'. Everyone tries to win through trial and error. The first step, the match in Qatar, has become an absolute deception for some and a great boost for others.
It was clear that in the MXGP class there was no problem against Max Nagl. The German, who has been reintegrated into the KTM-Husqvarna family, made two strong starts. Immediately a signal to dominate from start to finish on his 450 Husqvarna. In both heats it was Clément Desalle who took second place. The Rockstar Suzuki Belgian gave a very good impression, duels with Paulin and Cairoli were easily won, which is a nice boost for De Waal.
For third place overall we had Gautier Paulin and Antonio Cairoli both with the same number of points, but it was the Frenchman who scored the better second moto and thus took the podium. The long-awaited duel between Ryan Villopoto and Antonio Cairoli has not yet been fought in Losail, Qatar. This is partly because the American is clearly still looking for the right flow and adjustment for his Kawasaki machine. In the first moto, the experienced American even stalled the engine just at the start, making the entire moto a catch-up hunt, a yacht that ended up in ninth place. The second round was a bit better for RV2, but the brand new MXGP pilot could not get more than an eighth place.
In MX2 it was an expected scenario. One Jeffrey Herlings won both heats. In the first round, Dylan Ferrandis and the extremely strong Julien Lieber, among others, managed to give the impression that they would offer the two-time world champion a losing round. But nothing could be further from the truth, as the Dutch superstar pushed extra hard in the final minutes to clinch the blessing for Dylan Ferrandis and the Belgian Julien Lieber. In the second moto we saw a 'bis' number from the first moto for a long time. A fight between Ferrandis and Herlings with Lieber a short distance away. However, it was Dylan Ferrandis who made a crucial mistake in his pursuit of Jeffrey Herlings and thus gave the Dutchman a free pass to victory. Our compatriot also made good use of Dylan Ferrandis' miss and finished second. With this third and second place, Julien Lieber immediately scored his first overall World Cup podium of his young career. Also the first podium for the renewed Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube team of Tim Mathys! Dylan Ferrandis, with his second place in the first moto and a fifth place in the second, was still good for third place overall.
