Belgian National season off to a good start in Lommel
Today, Sunday March 1, the Belgian motocross season got underway in Lommel with the first 'Belgian National' of the season. In the loose sand of Lommel, the spectators present saw 'local' boy Yentel Martens win the first round in the Inters MX1/MX3 category. In this heat, 'the son of' was faster than Nick Triest and Mike Vanderstraeten. In the second moto Yentel Martens had bad luck, the Husqvarna pilot crashed badly and was unable to reach the finish. This paved the way for a victory for Mike Vanderstraeten, the young man who won an EMX300 Grand Prix last year, was faster than Jérémy Delincé on his KMP Repsol Honda and Nick Triest. In the overall result the overall victory was for Mike Vanderstraeten ahead of Nick Triest and Jérémy Delincé.
In the Inters MX2 class there was no problem against Brent Van Doninck in Lommel. The KEMEA Yamaha pilot won both heats ahead of one of his EMX250 competitors Lars Van Berkel. The podium was completed by Robin Bakens, who finished third and fourth once in the sand of Lommel.
