How did it go in Riola Sardo?!
Today the first round of the Italian championship was held. The Italian championship is set up in such a way that MX1 and MX2 each complete one series separately and then ride a super final together, a super final that they call the 'Elite' series. However, we will start with the MX2 boys where we saw Jeffrey Herlings' brand new teammate, Pauls Jonass, win. The KTM pilot did this ahead of the Swiss Jeremy Seewer and the Russian Vsevolod Brylyakov. Tim Gasjer finished disappointingly just off the podium ahead of Wilvo-Nestan Husqvarna pilot Alexandre Tonkov. Davy Pootjes was the best lowlander in sixth place, Jens Getteman managed to achieve eighth place, his teammate Nick Kouwenberg finished eleventh.
In the MX1 series, Gautier Paulin immediately managed to take his first victory on the HRC Honda. The Frenchman was just too fast for home favorite Antonio Cairoli on the Italian sand course of Riola Sardo. Our compatriot Jeremy Van Horebeek finished third ahead of Max Nagl and Romain Febvre. Ken De Dycker finished sixth ahead of his new teammate Tommy Searle.
The Elite series (Superfinal) match in Riola Sardo became a true showcase for Tony Cairoli. The Italian managed to beat the winner of the MX1 round, Gautier Paulin, by about 25 seconds. After his seventh place in the first heat, Tommy Searle now managed to achieve a third place. The rest of the top five was completed by Jose Butron and Romain Febvre. We found the first MX2 machine in the field in seventh place with Pauls Jonass. Jens Getteman finished in tenth place overall and third MX2 machine. The other compatriots in the results were Ken De Dycker in twelve place and Jeremy Van Horebeek in fourteenth place.
