SX Geneve: First blue victory for Guillod
The first evening of the traditional two-day supercross took place in Geneva on Friday. While this evening was a new career high for some, it was a new low for others.
A highlight was for home driver Valentin Guillod. The Swiss from Tim Mathys' Standing Construct stable was in action in the SX2 class. This class competes in two finals or heats every evening, call it what you want. They argue over the title of 'Prince of Geneva'.
The towering favorites in this class were Arnaud Tonus and Adam Cianciarulo. But injuries sustained during training in the run-up to the match threw a spanner in the works for Zwitser. As a result, the brand new Pro Circuit Kawasaki pilot AT200 did not travel to Geneva. So we mainly had to look forward to Adam Cianciarulo, this young man from Florida clocked the fastest time in training. However, things went wrong for Arnaud Tonus' teammate during the first final round. The American jumped next to the track and came into contact with the wall of the Palexpo. The first reliable rumors speak of a shoulder injury that would be similar to the shoulder injury that the super talent suffered last season. If this were correct, this would immediately mean inactivity for 6 months.
Due to the failure of these two gentlemen, it was time to see who would profile themselves as a possible new prince. In the first final round we saw Thomas Do win the race ahead of Valentin Guillod and Arnaud Aubin. Both Thomas Do and Valentin Guillod showed that they felt slightly stronger on the marked course than the competition. In the second heat it was again these two gentlemen who occupied the top positions. Now, however, it was Valentin Guillod who won ahead of Thomas Do and Josse Sallefranque. Valentin Guillod's victory in the second round was also the first on Yamaha and also the first for the renewed Yamaha Standing Construct. In addition, the last heat was decisive for the daily total. Valentin Guillod preceded Thomas Do in this. Both count the same number of points.
In the SX1 class we saw Marvin Musquin who qualified for the final via the LCQs. We even secretly dare to think that it was a tactical plan. In any case, these extra laps on the circuit did him no harm. Because in the final we saw a very strong Marvin Musquin. In the first 'version' of the final we saw Marvin Musquin receive enormous resistance from Josh Hill. However, this final ended with a red flag due to a heavy crash by Romain Berthome. Everyone seemed very affected and some panic was not far away, so we now have to wait for a message about the Frenchman's condition.
But as the saying goes, the show must go on. The second time the final started, Marvin Musquin was the first to get out of the starting blocks. While his strongest competitors such as Josh Hill & Malcolm Stewart were in deep trouble. It was a walk in the park for the Red Bull KTM pilot. In second place we got Cedric Soubeyras, who was ahead of Malcolm Stewart who had cycled from eighth to third place.
