Assen almost ready for MXGP presentation
Assen, home of the Dutch TT Race and the only surviving circuit that has been part of the Road Race World Championship since 1949, will make a presentation next week about their plans in the MXGP. The facilities located just north of Groningen will therefore host the sixteenth race of the Grand Prix season for the FIM Motocross World Championship on August 30. It will also be the last of the season on the European continent.
Apparently the motocross circuit will of course be flat and sandy next to the famous and award-winning asphalt circuit. Where the organizer and the teams can permanently use the paddock space and the stands where the fans get a nice overview of the circuit.
Assen is therefore the third organizer on the 2015 MXGP calendar that is based on a traditional motorsport complex such as Losail and Nakhonchaisri.
Sports insiders hope that Assen will not make the same mistake as on the Lausitzring circuit during the German GP in 2013, where spectators had to sit in stadiums that were too far away and so it became an atmosphereless race. One of the strengths of the MXGP is that spectators can get close to the action and the riders. Assen must therefore keep this in mind in their organization for the coming summer.
In Holland they can enjoy two MXGP races in 2015. The first will be on the Valkenswaard circuit, which will continue as the European Grand Prix at the end of April. Lierop, which was one of the most popular sand circuits on the GP calendar, received some local resistance over noise and especially scheduling concerns. This brought Assen to the forefront, which of course hopes to attract more spectators, which is immediately good for the city itself and of course the infrastructure that fits in with the MXGP strategy... although we have not yet received any mention on the official website. or a small promotion of the GP on August 30.
