SXGenoa: King Tomac, Heavy crash for Barcia.
Tonight the annual 'Monster Energy Genova Supercross' was held in Genoa, Italy. In the SX2 class the Dutch saw Nick Kouwenberg triumph. The Dutchman in Italian, JTech, employed, managed to stay ahead of the Italians Francesco Muratori and Dario Marrazzo in the 250cc class.
In the SX1 class we saw interesting competitions. The first final saw Frenchman Christophe Pourcel take the holeshot. The man on the Bud Kawasaki managed to hold this position for a while but quickly had to let Justin Barcia pass. Then Eli Tomac arrived and after a short duel he also passed Christophe Pourcel. The former MX2 world champion therefore put his money where his mouth is and finished the race at a good pace. However, this happened some distance behind Justin Barcia who was joined by Eli Tomac. Both felt each other out in order to go all out in the final laps. With two laps to go, Eli Tomac took over the lead. We saw Justin Barcia counter strongly several times, but the JGR Yamaha pilot, knowing that injuries are not a good idea now, always held back a bit. And so we saw Eli Tomac win the first round ahead of Justin Barcia and Christophe Pourcel.
In the second final it was again Christophe Pourcel who took the holeshot with Justin Barcia immediately behind him. The American immediately showed that he had no desire to be in CriCri's wheel for long. But then things went horribly wrong. Because Christophe Pourcel and Justin Barcia both used other options, both men hit each other during a jump. The man on the Yamaha was the victim of this and Justin Barcia fell to the ground, after which Eli Tomac jumped on his colleague. The match was therefore more than understandably stopped for a while and a restart was necessary...
At the restart of the second final it quickly became apparent that Christophe Pourcel was still thinking about the accident. Who did have a brilliant start was Eli Tomac. The American managed to dominate the race from start to finish! Zach Osborne, who started in Italy with a 350cc Husqvarna, had a good second round. After a fourth place in the first heat, the former Grand Prix pilot managed to finish second ahead of Mickael Musquin and Christophe Pourcel, who had come from last place.
However, Italian logic says that it is not these two finals that determine the 'King of Genoa'. However, there is a separate super final, which will be held together with the MX2 boys. In this super final, Christophe Pourcel took the holeshot for the third time today. The Frenchman managed to keep Eli Tomac behind for a few laps, but after that the beast was loose. Eli Tomac rode unthreatened to victory. There was some tension behind the Geico Honda pilot when Zach Osborne joined CriCri Pourcel. Both dueled for second and third place. However, it was the American on the Husqvarna who prevailed, C. Pourcel finished third. This makes Eli Tomac, after King of Lille, also King of Genoa. Beware of the new Napoleon!
