Tixier and Nagl were fastest in Leon
Jordi Tixier and Max Nagl won their qualifying match this afternoon in Leon, Mexico. On a treacherous circuit, which was quite slippery after some rain last night, the riders had a lot of trouble from the altitude. The course in Leon is at +- 1800m, which is even higher than Lakewood in Colorado. This causes the engines to lose quite a lot of power and the engines must be adjusted differently.
In the MX2 class we were looking forward to Jeffrey Herlings. He did not start in the first training, but at the request of the FIM he had to start in the time practice and the qualifying series. He drove a few laps on cruise control in both sessions and then returned to the pit lane.
Jordi Tixier ignored all the fuss and easily won the qualifying series. With this he tells everyone that he will not just give up and will go all out for the title. Dylan Ferrandis and Romain Febvre finished a close distance in second and third.
Herlings entered the pit lane after two laps and did not show up for the press conference. Tixier proclaimed in this press conference that he will give everything. The atmosphere in the team is currently a bit different than normal due to this situation, but both are friends and respect each other. This will certainly be a special match for Jordi Tixier. His brother had an accident last week and currently has no feeling in his legs, so Jordi also wants to win the title for him.
