Team Belgium on pole position for the MXON!!!
Belgium has won the qualifications for the Motocross of Nations in Kegums, Latvia. With Jeremy Van Horebeek's second place in the MXGP class and Kevin Strijbos' series victory in the Open class, Belgium had enough to be the first behind the starting gate tomorrow. Our third compatriot Julien Lieber was less fortunate and had to go to the pit box after four laps with mechanical problems.
Second place went to the French team that won the first Qualifying Heat with Gautier Paulin. Dylan Ferrandis also took fourth place in the MX2 class. This made Steven Frossard's fifth place in the Open class redundant because only the two best results count.
The English team took third place in the qualifications with Dean Wilson's best result being second place in the Open class. Tommy Searle (MX2) and Shaun Simpson (MXGP) each took fifth place in their class.
Our northern neighbors finished the qualifications in fourth place with Glenn Coldenhoff in second place in the MX2 classes and “Good Old” Marc De Reuver took seventh place in the Open class. This meant that the Netherlands had enough to choose a good starting position tomorrow. Ceriel Klein Kromhof finally finished fifteenth in the MXGP class.
Antonio Cairoli had the largest share in the Italian team's fifth place. Cairoli just happened to win the Qualifying Heat in the MX2 class. David Philippaerts took ninth place in the Open class and Davide Guarneri was tenth in the MXGP.
What about Team USA… Here Ryan Dungey was the strongest representative with a third place in the MXGP class. Jeremy Martin crashed hard in MX2 and had to give up a few laps later. So all the pressure was on Eli Tomac's shoulders. But Tomac also crashed at the start and had to leave almost last. Nevertheless, Tomac still achieved a nice eighth place.
Nations Qualification:
1. Belgium 3p (Van Horebeek-Lieber-Strijbos)
2. France 5p (Paulin-Ferrandis-Frossard)
3. England 7p (Simpson-Searle-Wilson)
4. Netherlands 9p (Klein Klomhof-Coldenhoff-De Reuver)
