Eighth world title for Antonio Cairoli
Antonio Cairoli has won his eighth world title of his career in Trindade, Brazil. After two world titles in the MX2 class, this was also his sixth in a row in the MX1. With this eighth world title, the Sicilian is getting closer to the ultimate goal of 10 world titles for our compatriot Stefan Everts. The Grand Prix victory in Brazil went to the German Max Nagl who was simply outstanding all weekend.
Nagl wins, Cairoli takes eighth world title…
It was Max Nagl who took the holeshot ahead of Dean Ferris and Steven Frossard. Nagl, who already made his mark during the Qualifying Race, did so again in this opening series. This start-finish victory certainly did not come as a surprise. Second place went to Frossard, who stayed ahead of our compatriot Kevin Strijbos. But of course all attention went to Antonio Cairoli who was able to win his eighth world title in this first series. Only Jeremy Van Horebeek was able to throw a spanner in Cairoli's works. But Van Horebeek crashed during the Qualifying Race on Saturday and injured his ankle. More than a thirteenth place was not possible for the painful Van Horebeek. So Cairoli only needed a fifth place in the first series to take his eighth world title of his career.

Max Nagl ends his weekend in flying colors…
Dean Ferris grabbed the holeshot ahead of first heat winner Max Nagl. Already in the opening round we received a slip from Steven Frossard, which also caused our compatriot Kevin Strijbos to fall. So numbers two and three of the first series had to return to the track last. But Max Nagl certainly didn't let that bother him and took the lead on the first lap. Gautier Paulin also quickly took second place. Dean Ferris was in third place ahead of Cairoli, but the Australian crashed and, according to the first reports, it was a broken leg. Nagl simply continued to ride at his own pace at the front and thus also took the win in this second series with the GP victory on top. Kevin Strijbos, who finished third in the first series, finished ninth after his fall with Frossard. Jeremy Van Horebeek decided not to start in this second series with the painful ankle.
