Cairoli lord and master in Belgian GP
Antonio Cairoli was able to win the Belgian Grand Prix again in his second home “Lommel”. The leader in the standings really didn't have much trouble doing this job in the sandbox of Lommel. Second place went to our compatriot Ken De Dijcker, who finally secured a podium place due to his annoying wrist injury. Kevin Strijbos and Jeremy van Horebeek, who had great weather in Loket last week, now had less success in their home Grand Prix…
Antonio Cairoli simply rules…
The holeshot in the first series went to Max Nagl ahead of Cairoli and Strijbos. But Cairoli and Strijbos were just as quick to overtake the German. Once Cairoli took the lead, everyone thought the race was over immediately, but that was beyond Kevin Strijbos's calculations. The Rockstar Suzuki rider simply took the lead from Cairoli after the second lap. Strijbos was able to hold the lead for about five laps and then Cairoli thought it was enough. Who also came out strongly from the background was Gautier Paulin who came from eleventh place to second place. Kevin Strijbos lost two places in one lap and would eventually have to let Simpson and De Dijcker go ahead. Ken De Dijcker rode a very consistent series and even caught Nagl and Strijbos towards the end. But what about Jeremy Van Horebeek… The Jerre was in third place until he made a mistake and lost some places and was only finished seventh. Antonio Cairoli won this first series with almost ease, ahead of Paulin and Simpson. De Dijcker therefore became our first compatriot for Kevin Strijbos. Finally, we can note an impressive tenth place from our northern neighbor Marc De Reuver, who managed to make up eleven places.

Severe weather doesn't faze Cairoli...
It was Filip Bengtsson who took the holeshot ahead of Cairoli and Van Horebeek. The Swede was even able to hold the lead for two laps before the grandmaster took over. The fact that Cairoli took over the lead was immediately the signal for Shaun Simpson to move up. In third place we even got “Good Old” Marc De Reuver who kept Ken De Dijcker behind him. But that was short-lived as De Dijcker took third place from De Reuver one lap later. Simpson really tried to keep up with Cairoli for a few laps, but ultimately had to pass. With about ten minutes to go, all hell broke loose above Lommelwood... a heavy thunderstorm broke out completely above the circuit. Cairoli still had the lead, but it was Simpson who lost second place to the very strong Ken De Dijcker due to the bad weather. Antonio Cairoli took the win in the second series in very poor conditions ahead of teammate Ken De Dijcker, who immediately became the best Belgian representative. Fourth place went to Gautier Paulin and it was Marc De Reuver who took over fifth place from Steven Frossard in the last lap. Our other compatriots fared less well, Kevin Strijbos came in eighth just ahead of Jeremy Van Horebeek who still suffered from his blow in the opening series.
