Op Monday July 21 2014 – our National Holiday – the 9th and penultimate edition of the 'Everts & Friends Charity Race' will take place on the Horensbergdam circuit in Genk, a unique motocross event for charity.
AMERICAN INVASION
That day will Stefan Everts, ten-time motocross world champion and currently working as Race Director at KTM, will once again compete with his (former) colleagues from the MXGP and MX2 class. Already on the competition sheet: Jeffrey Herlings, Max Nagl, Kevin Strijbos, Jeremy Van Horebeek, Ken De Dycker, James Dobb, Brian Jorgensen, José Butrón, Thomas Covington, Rui Goncalves, Steffi Laier, Marcus Schiffer, Petar Petrov, Nick Triest, Brent Van Doninck, Kenny Vandueren ,…
And of course there is the absolutely unique reappearance of it Ricky Carmichael, with 16 AMA SX and MX titles and 150 professional victories, the most successful American motocross rider ever. So it will be an unforgettable reunion with the two best riders in motocross history!
Besides making Ricky Carmichael too Jeff Stanton, six-time AMA champion, and Jeff Emig, four-time AMA title holder (although not on the motorcycle due to a broken collarbone), crossing the large lake towards Genk.
The initiator is the initiator of the unique 'Cyclo MX Race', in which a top motocross rider and cyclo-cross rider form a team and each ride two relay laps on their own (motor) bike. Sven Nys, after a year of absence (BK mountain bike), back in the party. Also Niels Albert, Rob Peeters, Sven Vanthourehout, Yannick Peeters and Jan Denuwelaere have promised.
Also Heikki Mikkola, four-time motocross world champion and one of the most legendary motocross riders of the 70s, is coming to the Horensbergdam.
With the 'Golden Heroes' we look forward to, among other things: Marc Velkeneers, Dave King, Jean Jacques Bruno, Jan Blancquaert, Erwin Gabriël, Herbert Schmitz and Benoit Pauwels, the famous 'motocross rider with only one arm'.
As with previous editions, the competition program is particularly well filled with series for 'Mini's' (50cc), 'Junior Stars' (65cc), 'Future Stars' (85cc), 'GP Stars' (MX1/MX2/WMX), 'Fun Bikes' (mopeds and scooters) and 'Golden Heroes' (vintage cars). Plus the unique motocross-cyclocross relay series, in which a top rider from motocross and cyclocross is alternately sent onto the circuit.
There will also be plenty to do next to the course. The riders' quarters and team trucks are very clearly arranged and there is an indoor exhibition with (famous) classic dirt bikes, children's entertainment (bouncy castle, trampolines, make-up, clowns, etc.) and a giant summer BBQ for riders and fans on Sunday evening (pre-registration required). There will also be an autograph session with the famous athletes during the break.
Demos are also provided between the series Kenny Belaey, multiple trial bike world champion and record holder for the most number of UCI titles.
For the final winner in the 'Future Stars' category there is the Stefan Everts challenge trophy, a stone-carved replica of the last air-cooled engine block, complete with kick starter and spark plug head, that 'The Legend' rode.
Fans of ultra-fast cars can also enjoy this on July 21st. to their heart's content. Because the Audi R8 LMS Ultra with which Frank Belien, Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin contest the BK GT 2014, will be present at the Everts & Friends Charity Race 2014. The 580 hp strong car sprints from zero to 2.9 km/h in 100 seconds and triumphed last year in the Belgian GT Championship. Bert Longin, like Freddy Loix by the way, takes part in the Charity Race himself and starts with the 'Golden Heroes'.
